How to Read and Design Cities as Living Systems
Cities are increasingly covered with ecological imagery, yet many remain organized through systems that produce heat, flooding, automobile dependency, sealed ground and fragmented public life.
This master class gives architects, urban designers, landscape architects, planners and advanced students a practical method for reading cities through the relationships between soil, water, vegetation, climate, mobility, public space, proximity and urban form.
It is not a video summary of the book. It is a professional learning experience focused on diagnosis, comparison and application.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Learn how to move beyond green imagery and evaluate the deeper ecological systems that shape urban life.
1. READ THE HIDDEN CITY
Understand the invisible systems beneath urban form: soil, water, climate, infrastructure and metabolism.
2. DISTINGUISH IMAGE FROM STRUCTURE
Recognize when ecology genuinely organizes the city and when it remains branding, decoration or compensation.
3. DIAGNOSE URBAN SYSTEMS
Evaluate mobility, public space, canopy, biodiversity, proximity and urban form through a common framework.
4. APPLY A PROFESSIONAL METHOD
Use the Ecological Diagnostic Framework to analyse real neighborhoods, masterplans and urban projects.
