WORK WITH ME

URBAN DESIGN ADVISORY

Strategic support for urban projects, masterplans and ecological design visions

I work with developers, design teams, institutions and independent professionals who need a clearer urban vision, a stronger ecological strategy, or an independent critical review of a project.

My work combines more than two decades of experience in urban design, master planning and landscape strategy between Europe and Southeast Asia, with a focus on cities as living systems.

MY APPROACH
Designing cities as living systems, not collections of isolated solutions

Every project begins with understanding relationships rather than individual elements.

Instead of asking where to place trees, parks or buildings, I first explore how soil, water, mobility, public space and urban form interact. This systems-based approach creates places that are more resilient, liveable and ecologically coherent.

1.
UNDERSTAND

Understanding the project ambitions, context, stakeholders and long-term vision
2.
DIAGNOSE

Reading the city through the relationships between ecology, mobility, urban form and public space using the Ecological City Framework.
3.
DESIGN

Transforming complex relationships into a coherent spatial strategy and urban vision
4.
SUPPORT

Supporting clients throughout concept development, reviews and strategic decision-making

"Good urban design is not about adding sustainable elements. It is about designing the relationships that allow a city to function as a living ecological system"

THE METHOD BEHIND MY WORK
The Ecological Diagnostic Framework (EDF)

Every project I undertake begins with the Ecological Diagnostic Framework (EDF), a methodology I developed through more than twenty-five years of professional experience in urban design, master planning and landscape strategy across Europe and Southeast Asia.

The EDF is the result of years spent working on projects of different scales, climates and cultural contexts, together with extensive research into the relationships between ecological systems and urban form. It became the central methodology presented in my book The Ecological City, where it provides a practical framework for understanding, evaluating and designing cities as living systems.

Rather than measuring ecological performance through isolated indicators, the EDF explores the relationships between mobility, soil, water, vegetation, public space and urban form. It reveals how these systems influence one another and where the greatest opportunities for improving urban quality and ecological performance can be found.

The framework is not intended as a certification system or a checklist. It is a practical design and diagnostic tool that helps transform complex urban conditions into clear strategic decisions. Whether I am reviewing an existing master plan, developing a new urban vision or advising a multidisciplinary design team, the EDF provides a structured path from observation to diagnosis, and from diagnosis to design.

"The Ecological Diagnostic Framework is not just the methodology behind my consultancy. It is the core of my book The Ecological City and the foundation of every project I undertake"

FROM FRAMEWORK TO REAL PROJECTS
Turning ecological strategies into places that work

Every project begins with a strategic understanding of relationships. Through the Ecological Diagnostic Framework, these insights are translated into urban visions, masterplans and landscape concepts that respond to the unique ecological, cultural and spatial conditions of each place.

Whether supporting an existing team or leading the entire concept design process, my goal is always the same: transform complexity into clear, coherent and inspiring projects.
